Value Based Healthcare — Institut Français
FR

Value-Based Healthcare is, by its very nature, a collective approach. It cannot be driven by a single stakeholder, a single hospital or a single organisation.

How is it that I'm only discovering it now, when it has existed since 2006? For the first time, I held in my hands a toolbox that would allow me to help as many people as possible gain better access to healthcare.
The origins of the Institute

A realisationand a drive for immediate action

Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) requires alignment between healthcare professionals, patients, funders, industry and policymakers.

While VBHC is a powerful model, implementing it is a real challenge. All too often, it is seen as a distant or theoretical concept. Preconceptions need to be dismantled, professionals need to be equipped, and concrete results need to be shown in order to convince.

Another observation: a unifying player is missing to accelerate adoption in France. Healthcare organisations, industry and policymakers are each moving at their own pace, without always having a reference body to support them, train them and facilitate the implementation of VBHC solutions.

In response to these observations, the idea took shape: to create an organisation capable of accelerating the adoption of VBHC in France, by providing hands-on expertise, practical tools and a collaborative approach. This is how the Value Based HealthCare French Institute was born.

Making value a lived reality, not a concept.
Our mission

Who are we?

The Institute's purpose is to advance Value in Healthcare across the French-speaking world, thanks to the skilled people who make it up and to its chosen partners.

Everywhere, healthcare stakeholders share the same intuition: the system can no longer hold up by piling on solutions, tools or partial reforms.

Professionals are committed, competent and deeply attached to the quality of care — but all too often held back by fragmented organisations, funding models disconnected from outcomes, and growing fatigue.

Value-Based Healthcare provides a clear direction. But between the vision and the reality on the ground, the gap remains immense.

It is precisely to bridge this gap that the Value Based HealthCare French Institute was founded.

Our purpose

To accelerate the transition towards healthcare systems that are genuinely value-oriented, by helping stakeholders move from intention to action, with method, pragmatism and high standards.

We are convinced that value cannot be decreed. It is built, step by step, with those who care for, organise, decide for and support patients every day.

Our team

Maria-Belen Lopez

Founding DirectorPhD, MBA

A VBHC methodologist, Maria-Belen has devoted her career to helping healthcare organisations, institutions and industry move value in healthcare from intention to measurable practice: training, designing outcome measurement frameworks, supporting the transformation of care pathways and building value-based multi-stakeholder partnerships.

Georges Andrée

PartnerMBA

A seasoned commercial leader, Georges has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare (Sanofi, UCB, Boston Scientific) and strategy consulting (McKinsey). Well versed in complex market dynamics, he knows how to identify the levers of value creation and has a proven track record in developing in-house capabilities.

Marine Raveleau

Expert MemberMSc

A biomedical engineer, Marine has worked in healthcare consulting (IQVIA, Quadrant Healthcare, AEC Partners) and financial audit (EY). She focuses on turning innovation into high-impact activities that deliver better outcomes for patients. She has led numerous assignments for pharmaceutical and biotech companies across several therapeutic areas, including rare diseases.

What we actually dotwo inseparable levers

  • TrainTo empower people to act. Our certified training courses (France Compétences, Qualiopi) do not aim to spread a theoretical model, but to develop the ability to read situations, decide and act. Understanding pathways, identifying what really matters to patients, managing by outcomes, structuring governance: these are all key skills for acting with discernment in complex contexts.
  • SupportTo achieve real transformation. We work alongside organisations to structure value-oriented patient journeys, set up management systems (scorecards, PROMs, PREMs, CROMs), evolve governance models and support teams in building their skills. Integrated Practice Units (IPUs) provide a solid international frame of reference — a horizon to aim for, never an immediate injunction.

Our scientific committee

An approach grounded in reality

Our strength lies in the constant interplay between field work and reflection. Experience gained in projects feeds into our training. The tools taught in training are tested, adapted and sometimes challenged in the field.

This continuous loop ensures:

  • methodological consistency,
  • credibility with stakeholders,
  • and above all, transformations that last over time.

What sets us apart

  • A deliberately small, committed team, driven by the conviction that VBHC can genuinely improve patients' health and the sustainability of the system.
  • Over 50 years of combined experience in healthcare organisations, the pharmaceutical and medtech industry, and strategy consulting.
  • An ability to combine methodological rigour with pragmatism, favouring gradual, measurable progress that teams can take ownership of.
  • A lean and transparent operating model: little infrastructure, smart tools that serve real work, and a simple principle — what is paid for corresponds to the value actually produced.

Our values

Our values are not just theoretical principles. They reflect my story, my journey and my view of the world. They shape our approach, guide our decisions and define the way we work to transform the healthcare system for the long term.

I have always believed that action is the only valid response to challenges. I grew up in a culture where waiting for things to change was not an option. When resources are lacking, you don't complain, you find solutions.

In the field of VBHC, many talk, but few act. Countless reports, studies and conferences address the importance of transforming care, but on the ground, progress is often too slow.

Ambition is worthless without execution. It is by taking action that we will build change.

These four values are not mere concepts; they are lived every day in our work. They are the foundation of our commitment to a more effective, more humane and more sustainable healthcare system.

It is with these values that we move forward, bring people together and build the future of healthcare.

They recommend usVBHC training and support

A fascinating and enriching training course on the concept of value in healthcare. Thank you, Maria-Belen, for your professionalism, your passion and your commitment. The examples helped everyone better grasp what this approach brings.

Céline Pribil
HEOR expertise manager

I really enjoyed working with Maria-Belen and Lucie on our VBHC project for the breast cancer pathway. Their help, both through their methodological support and their energy, was invaluable in building momentum within our teams. Without this outside boost, I don't think it would have been possible to launch this initiative, and we will not hesitate to call on them again to help us through other critical phases of this project.

Loic Lagarde
Director - Clinique Pasteur

Marie Belen is an outstanding teacher. Her clarity, her method and her ability to illustrate every VBHC concept with concrete examples made complex ideas accessible and vivid. Beyond the tools and models, she passed on a real vision to me: that of a fairer healthcare system, focused on the outcomes that really matter to patients.

Samy Aouachria
Deputy Medical Director - VBHC Green Belt

If you are interested in healthcare innovation, in a different vision of the health system where we talk about value in healthcare, in a different organisational approach to care, Maria-Belen Lopez is the person you need to meet: she is a VBHC specialist. She will guide you through this transition / transformation in the world of healthcare.
